Who Uses the National Electric Code
The National Electrical Code (NEC) is used by architects and engineers as they develop construction documents for buildings and their occupants.
Federal, State and Local agencies (Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)) use the information in the NEC as the national standard for enforcing electrical safety standards in buildings. The vast majority of building inspectors in municipalities around the United States turn to the NEC documentation when conducting inspections, authorizing permits or issuing certificates of occupancy. Effective enforcement of the NEC by AHJ entities improve their overall fire rating for insurance purposes.
